Concord New Hampshire’s Chamber of Commerce received an early Holiday present this year; a mailbox for the children of the community to mail their letters to Santa Claus.
The project was spear-headed by Brendan Ryder, the Applied Arts teacher at ParkerAcademy. He and a handful of students from a building trades class built a five foot mailbox with a cedar shingle roof and three different mail slots. Samantha designed the mailbox and then spent the next several days along with Oliver and Michael building the structure.
Once the mailbox was complete, Deborah Mahar, the Fine Arts teacher at Parker Academy with the help of students Samantha and Martha, designed the outside of the mailbox. The concept was to create a simple but elegant style using winter colors. The snowflakes were cut by Martha and then carefully applied to the mailbox in order to correspond with the “traditional” New England small town feeling. The mailbox was unveiled on December 4th during Main StreetConcord’s Midnight Merriment in the enchanted forest. It is a timeless piece, cooperatively built that will be used by community children to mail their Holiday wishes to Santa Claus.
